Familiar Rules

Familiars are non-humanoid creatures that share a strong bond with the player. They can be anything ranging from a small frog to a beautiful phoenix. Every player is allowed to have only one familiar at a time. Familiars share such a strong bond with the character that if the character were to die the familiar will protect the body from anything, staying with them until they die themselves. They can also go to someone they have met before for help if their owner were severely injured. In order to obtain a familiar you would have to spend 2,000 word count finding and befriending the creature if it is a unique creature. If it is a creature already existing such as a dragon you will have to search one out and spend 2,500 word count attempting to tame the creature to make it your familiar. If your familiar dies you will be allowed to obtain another familiar however if you kill off your familiar on purpose you will never be allowed to obtain a familiar again. Familiars are allowed to have three special abilities unique to them or their race. This does not include natural abilities. For example a phoenix would have the natural ability to fly and use human speech but a special ability of the phoenix would be to revive itself after death by exploding into ashes. These special abilities will be monitored and must make a degree of sense. Familiars are allowed to have up to 5 natural abilities dependent on their race such as flight, the ability to swim, human speech etc. If you have a rat familiar for example it will not be allowed to shoot laser beams from its eyes or mouth but a dragon familiar would be allowed breath attacks. Each familiar must be registered and approved by staff before you can obtain it.

Your familiar will be allowed to have up to half of your character's stats rounded up. For example if your character has 25 constitution your familiar can have at maximum 13 in constitution. Unique familiars will start with 1 in each of their stats and need to be trained to get more powerful. Pre-existing creatures that are tamed will start with the stats they had when tamed. If their stats are over the allowed cap they will be reduced to allowable limits. This means that if you have 25 intellect and tame a dragon with 20 intellect it's intelligence stat will be lowered to 13 to fit the allowable stat cap.

Note: The Beast Tamer class is an exception to the one familiar rule. Beast Tamers will be allowed to have up to 5 familiars at one time that can be a combination of unique creatures and pre-existing ones.
